Story behind
Will we be disappointed when we find out the things we dreamt of when appearing before our eyes, are not what we originally thought?
My mother taught me when I was little that when we receive a gift, whether we like it or not we must say “thank you”. It is impolite to show displeasure in front of the others. Maybe things have changed in time. How often have I seen children throwing a tantrum, or stomping off to their bedrooms with bulging cheeks, just because they did not receive the gifts they longed for?
I understand that when there is a contrast between expectations and reality, it can make us emotional. We may feel disappointed, sad or enraged. I just want to say that if the gift giver sees our reaction, his/her expectations and reality will equally be in contrast. I accept gifts not only out of politeness, but more importantly because I refuse to demoralise those who care to offer me a gift. I am grateful that they have me in their hearts.
